9 year prison to journalist Ersin Sanli

Turkish Radio Television (TRT) Country News Director, Ersin Sanli is sentenced 9 years in prison by 18th Criminal Court in Turkey.

On August 11, 2016, Journalist Ersin SANLI was taken into the custody in the scope of unlawful investigation opened after the July 15, 2016 coup attempt. Sanli got arrested on August 18, 2016, sent to Sincan Prison, and dismissed from his position with 672nd statutory decree. It is stated that he was illtreated both in custody and in prison despite his health problems. In addition, his journalist pass and green passport were canceled.
Ersin Sanli and his team, who helped improving the last-minute news and countrywide news network of TRT were also part of the TRT News’s awards both in national and international levels. 

Turkey is one of the leading countries in the world for the number of journalists serving in prison.
